Thanks but I made a batch yesterday and M finished the last two up for breakfast.

Those look delicious Binky
I keep meaning to make some, may get round to it eventually, perhaps when I’m more into soup mode

[quote="Binky"]Made with those packet fried onions either jeral,or Sakkarin, mentioned elsewhere. I can't stop myself. Cheese and onion scones with homemade carrot soup for lunch today.
Hi, yes please.
It was Sakkarin who first mentioned the dried onions and yes, they're addictive Maybe that's why mine went soft quickly - accessing the tub too frequently, oops.

Re: Anyone fancy a cheese scone?
We have one of those vacuum sealer machines. OH often bags up seeds and nuts, and he's bagged up my huge bag of crispy onions so that I have four small bags (airtight until opened).
It's a useful bit of kitchen equipment, and I can recommend it to anyone with lots of pumpkin or sunflower seeds/cheeses/peanuts/crispy onions or hops (which is why OH bought the kit in the first place).

Re: Anyone fancy a cheese scone?
I had a cheapo vacuum sealer from the centre aisle bargains at Lidl years ago, and it was good until it suddenly seized up
Would certainly consider getting a better one

Re: Anyone fancy a cheese scone?
I've had a vacuum sealer since the 1980s (a present from my Mum). I use it mainly for freezing things - it guards against freezer burn and you don't freeze air, like you can do if you freeze things in containers. If I'm freezing something that can be cooked or re-heated from frozen, I vacuum seal it and then put it in the container that it will be re-heated in and freeze it, then when frozen, take it out of the container. That way, you don't have the problem of finding a re-heating container that it will fit into.

Can't get cheese scones out my head now, so I'm afraid I'm going to have to make some
EDIT: Went for one normouse scone in the end. I put the matchbox in for scale, but it doesn't really show quite how big it is!

They used to call those "scone rounds", although the dough was slashed across both ways, so four joined quarters, presumably to avoid an undercooked middle. They were my favourites, although with many sultanas to "find" like treasure.

greta looking scone Sakkarin - make mine look pathetic and weedy in comparison.

Totally remember those - plus they were far flatter.

Re: Anyone fancy a cheese scone?
Now you lot have made me go and buy crispy onions
Re: Anyone fancy a cheese scone?
great looking scone Sakkarin
It looks better than it actually was - it was undercooked on the inside, as it was rather huge and I didn't adjust the cooking time enough. I still wolfed it down though.
