Mayo the UKs favourite condiment
According to this https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/9880865/s ... ayonnaise/
I’m not surprised really . I think mayonnaise is far more versatile overall . I only really use brown sauce occasionally with sausages or a cooked breakfast . Tomato ketchup only with fishfingers or fish and chips . I don’t mind salad cream but never really use it

Re: Mayo the UKs favourite condiment
I am not puzzled by mayo as a condiment, but I am quite puzzled by the assumption in recipes from all sources that if mayo is a component or an ingredient in a dish, it always comes out of a jar, and making it is never even mentioned
I keep bought mayo as it seems to keep forever in the fridge, and it’s good to have some on hand for a sandwich or to make a dressing
But if I’m doing a dish such as eggs mayonnaise, I make my own, so easy with modern equipment

Re: Mayo the UKs favourite condiment
I've never liked the oily taste of proper mayonnaise but like the creamy jarred sort (has to be Hellman's) only if I add paprika or cayenne to it to counter the creaminess. That probably makes me typical of those enjoying new spiced mayos.
The traditional sauces, especially sweet tomato ketchup, stay in the cupboard until they expire. Although Heinz do a honey mustard bbq one that's not bad if grilling skewers or (with tamari added) for dipping prawns or veg spring rolls.

Yep, it depends what you're eating.
Cheese on toast, with brown sauce. Mayo wouldn't go.
I used to be rather slavish about making my own. But buy jarred nowadays.
And just the own brand of whichever shop I'm in.
Although M&S mayo at the moment is like salad cream. I don't know what they've done to it.
The most used condiment in our house is probably mustard.

Always jarred these days. Buy Helman's when it's on offer so sometimes have more than one jar in the cupboard. Use it for coleslaw, tuna mayo or prawns and that's about it.
One of us likes tomato sauce, the other brown. Dijon mustard gets used for salad dressing and that's about it for us.

For family consumption it’s always home made, but if I’m doing something for outside such as egg sandwiches for a village do (yes I know it’s dull but never mind) then it’s Hellman’s. I prefer Hellman’s to French bought mayo if I’m honest.

I'm like Sue I make my own for speial dishes for guests but as, nowadays I have so many with compromised immune systems I use bought more often. It depends for what. I have jars of both Hellmans and Bendicta in the fridge

Sainsbury’s used to do a really nice French style mayo but think they discontinued it a few years ago .
I love mustard too, either Dijon or English normally . Tracklements fo a really nice horseradish mustard . I also love sriracha, gorgeous stuff. Mint and apple sauce I can leave it take though I do love mint and lamb

Tracklements horseradish sauce used to be the hottest available. My butcher doesn’t stock it any more. Is it still around?

Re: Mayo the UKs favourite condiment
Growing up, we had Hellman's mayo, French's mustard yellow/hotdog and hunts ketchup. In a pinch, aldi's mayo worked. I would steer clear of Heinz mayo. No zip to it. Bland beyond bland.
Hellman's is great to dip French fries in.
