black walnut bay sauce.
WOW! That one looks fascinating, Wargarden. What an interesting recipe!
Are you going to make it?
Re: list of lost and forgotten sauces
Amyw yes the real maryland fried chicken not stuff you find in the UK, AU or other countries.

I like the look of that black walnut bay sauce! Is it one that you've made?
Re: list of lost and forgotten sauces
i had forgotten bread sauce...
i have never made it, why would i‽‽‽ the most boring (and beige) sauce on the planet. i tried it once - waste of calories.
the walnut leaf sauce on the other hand sounds like it could have legs!

I love the walnut sauce. Next spring I'll nip over to my friends house and steal some leaves - not sure if it is black walnu though. Would it make a difference?
I have made pickled walnuts from same tree and by their very nature they turn black.

if you want know for sure plant a tomato at base of that walnut tree.
black walnut trees produce substance in there roots that kill tomato plants.

Please don’t think I eat it in huge quantities every day. It also depends how it is made. I use Delia’s recipe which is light and creamy and I think it goes well with a chicken or of course the Christmas turkey. I had some bought stuff once - I even think it came from M&S and I can honestly say it wasn’t a patch on mine!

I love bread sauce too, but then again I quite like Mull...
I usually make it if we're hosting Christmas, and end up eating most of it. My last batch was probably the last year we hosted.

I also used Delia's recipe cherry tree! In small amounts with the Christmas meal, it is creamy with slight hints of clove, onion and nutmeg.
