Re: Pullets eggs
I have just been to collect 5 little brown speckled eggs form my Wellsomers. They are such gorgeous hens. My little Pekins have only laid a few very small eggs since I got them. They will be perfect for Scotch Eggs as Suffs says. Our 2 older Sussex Whites are still laying like good'uns so we had a bif piperade for lunch to use the abundance of tomatoes and peppers we are harvesting

These are my favourites though and they already know the sound of our voices and come running to see us when we call.

Wonderful Joan! I love those Pekin Bantams!
I do envy people who are able to keep hens. They're delightful creatures!

My nine year old grandson keeps 6 hens. He manages it all beautifully. He isn’t the slightest bit interested in money, so for his birthday we add to his hen fund. He’s delighted with this arrangement so everybody is happy.

What a lovely story cherrytree! It's wonderful that your grandson is doing something like that.
Re: Pullets eggs
cherrytree, how does your grandson cope with chickens being killed for food, or has that connection not been made yet?

He’s a child that lives in the country. I taught farmers’ children for years and they were aquainted with death and animals from a very early age.
My grandson’s aren’t destined for the pot. One dropped down dead from old age a few weeks ago and he was fine about it.
