Ainsleys still going strong . I often wondered about Gary Rhodes, he used to be everywhere. Lesley Waters has cooked a few times at the Exeter Food Festival . I think she’s fairly local .

I used to love ready steady cook . Am surprised they’ve never brought it back . I think the problems with those type of cooks is that they don’t have a particular gimmick or hook . Most people nowadays seem to have a signature if it’s healthy eating , or a particular regions food

I saw Gary Rhodes on something recently, can't remember what. Didn't he have a fitness thing going on as a side venture?

I caught Ainsley one afternoon last week paired with Len - who used to be a judge on Strictly. They were visiting various haunts in their part of London and tasting dishes from their childhoods. It was rather amusing and very interesting.

I can't even remember which channel it was on.

Lesley Waters runs her own cookery school these days. As does Nick Nairn another RSC Star.

As mentioned Ainsley has a new series out but he does do other TV presenting. Don’t forget that he and Gary Rhodes are now around 60 and probably pulling back a bit from work having made their dosh. Don’t remember Gary doing a fitness thing, doesn’t sound like him at all. I think he expanded onto cruise ships and the like.

Ainsley said he was 70 when I saw him on TV.

Joan - it was a re-run on BBC2 - Ainsley and Len's Big Food Adventure. Ainsley was born on 28 February 1957, making him 62.

EDIT: Not much to do with Favourite Recipes, although maybe that recipe is for Beef Cake. Hmm, that sounds like a Wargarden dish to pair with Fish Boil, or whatever it was...

Gary's got buff . I've heard a few people say, possibly Ian if I remember correctly who said that despite his cringey TV persona, his recipes are actually very sound. Never even looked in an Ainsley book though

Ah right. I stand corrected although it looks like a typical DM publicity stunt!

(Bet he doesn’t do it now).

Ainley’s Barbecue Bible is absolutely fantastic Amy. We use it all the time and his latest series has had really good reviews so far.

Gary Rhodes has an impeccable working pedigree as a chef. Ainsley has never pretended that despite what the press angle is. Gary never did RSC, far too busy running his West End restaurants. Ainsley is a trained chef but primarily an entertainer.

Two different career paths.

Can you tell I adore Ainsley? :birthday-dancer

Jeral,

I am not very technological in the way of "fórums" or websites as to what the capabilities are as far as software or hardware issues ..

and what this fórum is capable of doing in regards to setting up a recipe category in a more organised manner.

So, perhaps you are right .. Just a suggestion to provide a clearer means to find a recipe in the category wanted.

Whether this is a possibility or not technically speaking, I have no idea.

Wonderful weekend wishes.

What I know about Ainsley, his standard of tennis was good enough to go professional
And he used to be a Standup comedian.

I've got his first express book, and his recipes are great.

In particular his cheeky chicken tikka masala, dead easy. http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=QBAE ... la&f=false
I made it for 2 "I'll probably not eat a thing" non-foodies on a summer scorcher day in our town house garden in Kew (which was designed by Roddy Llewellyn).

Not a scrap was left. I thought it was too simple before making it, but it's a delight.

I must dig out his book again. I used to make a few things from it.

Noooo.....I swore I wasn't going to buy any more recipe books when I gave my collection of over 400 to a charity shop...but have just ordered Ainsley's book that Gill recommended. Note to self - NO MORE RECIPE BOOKS!

Don't go shopping with me then.
If you cannot decide between this top and that top. I always recommend buying both.

I still make his croissant nibbles. Sounds basic, but they're good.
Pilsbury croissant dough from the freezer section, spread the triangle with both tomato ketchup and horseradish sauce (I hope I remember that properly).
Chipolata or favourite sausage, edited to add I'd better read the recipe to see if they are cooked or parcooked. Cherrytree will use a cumberland sausage ;) Roll up like a croissant and bake.

I'm not a fan of sausages, but these are great. Bigger than nibbles tho.
