Re: Fried green tea leaves
I’ve never “got” tea either . Find it weird how some people drink bucketloads of the stuff . There’s a bit of an urban myth I think that you should try every food seven times , then you’ll like it , but there’s certain foods I’ll never like mainly mash and chickpeas. Not together though
Re: Fried green tea leaves
I don’t particularly like coriander, but I’ll eat it if someone else cooks with it. It does taste a bit soapy, but I thought that was just me.
I’m with Joan on tea, though. I can’t get past the smell. I enjoy black coffee, but when I’m out these days I’ll often have just hot water, other people's coffee can sometimes be a bit too strong. I probably wouldn’t have thought of just water when I was younger, but I find I don’t mind the odd looks these days!

Re: Fried green tea leaves
I keep looking at this thread title and thinking of Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe:D

i'm pretty sure his mother tongue is japanese. i doesn't really take much effort to decipher what he's saying, does it? i'm sure my use of 'foreign' languages is equally annoying to native speakers but the only way you get better at it is through practice.
content is a different matter.

Yes, I think of Fried Green Tomatoes, too. Have you read the book? It’s quite specific about why the barbecue sauce is so good. More so than the film could be.
Re: Fried green tea leaves
Agreed Scullion . We have a couple of foreign , non native English speakers here and I think (hope) that what we could sometimes perceive as rudeness , is just unfamiliarity with our language

Re: Fried green tea leaves
I feel s lot better having read some of these posts. I used to loathe coriander but it’s slowly, very slowly beginning to grow on me. Now I must tackle gooseberries and goats cheese, and possibly, pulses.
Re: Fried green tea leaves
Oh god I hate goats cheese with a passion, although to be fair, I'm not great with a lot of cheese. Give me a good mature cheddar though and I'm happy.
Love gooseberries, one of my favourite crumble fillings. Pulses , no, not great with. I don't mind cannellini or haricot beans. Chickpeas, butter beans and the like though

No goat's cheese or gooseberries for me .
Goat's cheese tastes like fag ash to me.

Re: Fried green tea leaves
I could be wrong, but I think that goat's cheese is sold as 'crottins' rather than blocks.
The translation is 'turds'.

Goat cheese? Ohhhh, food of the Gods!
Petit Crottin; wrapped in chestnut leaves; Chaource; or just as it is, combined with sweet & sour beetroot on a puff pastry base!!

I just like it on crackers, with a glass of something appropriate.
Or in a salad.
Or a quiche..
... Might need to buy some tomorrow

Often think I’d make a rubbish vegetarian as a lot of pub grub veggie options contain chickpeas or goats cheese , both of which I loathe

Re: Fried green tea leaves
I always say I get the easy option as the vegetarian I eat out with most often likes all the menu cliches- goats cheese, aubergines, field mushrooms. Not keen on pulses but happy with pasta
I’ve been eating beetroot and goats cheese with lunch time salads. Delicious
