Pea shoots are tasty little things. I grow them from Batchelors dried peas and this reminds me that there's still time to plant some, on the windowledge, plus I'll sprout some (soaked) mung beans in a colander too. while I'm at it.

Binky, I wonder if the peas were shelled so that they don't pop as that might detract from the caviar pop served with them.

I've shelled lots of peas by accident. Bringing them to the boil and forgetting them does it every time, doh. If that happens, I boil them viciously(?) for a bit longer in a lot of water and usually all the shells magically rise to the surface to be scooped off.

i can see only two ways to peel unpodded peas and that is with a grinder and the peas are frozen.
the other would have to be some strange molecular gastronomy technique.

"There are only 5 people on the planet I'd peel peas for".

That's 5 more than me!

Tee hee. By the same token, my escaping peas avatar (courtesy Sakkarin) has turned out to be prophetic: "Please, please don't skin me!" I can reassure my peas that they really needn't worry.

I recognise that Princess and the Pea pic, I thought it was William Heath Robinson, but this is his pic in the copy of Anderson's Fairy Tales I have...

My thoughts exactly LL. I think some people (in this case the pea peelers!) need to get out more!

Even the cannonball peas that we grew a few years back had edible membranes.
