You're a mere youngster, SSC!
Too true, thus we didn't watch Postman Pat until the grandchildren came along!
AmyW, a short comparison of the two would be, if buying food to cook at home, Greendale would be better, certainly for fish and their meat is good.
Restaurant/coffee room has a low ceiling, a bit cramped and, for me, very noisy, apart from a couple of tables it’s also up a few steps. Of course they have rebuilt by now.
Darts Farm, as you know, has food plus a lot of other things. Ideal for us when OH needed to get out and start walking again, lots of ‘window’ shopping. Restaurant has a high ceiling, always a queue for lunch but never a long wait.
Never bought fresh veg or fruit from either - use our town. Darts Farm marginally better for take home cake slice for something for tea!

Re: National Fish and Chips Day today
Re my Postman Pat comment above, it possibly started when I was just finishing junior school, so i only ever saw the occasional episode during the school holidays. I am probably more familiar with the theme tune because I used to hear it on the radio - my mum was a fan of the Terry Wogan show. although i am under 50, I am nearer to that age than 40!

Fish and chips at a local pub.
Lunch time, £9.50. Cider and chive batter stayed crisp to the last mouthful. Made on the premises Tartare Sauce was pleasant. Fish, haddock, very good.
Chips could've done with being crisper.
Peas - poor. Overcooked.
Here's the prices from the once-a-week fish van. Two plaice fillets for us £5.30.

Strange things can happen with computers Dennis!
There you are KK! A nice plate of fish & chips.
Cider and chive batter! What a lovely idea! Shame about the peas.

John Dory is a close-textured firm fish Amy, & is very 'sweet' - I usually have it filleted & simply fry it - absolutely lovely - once you try it you'll be hooked too
Re: National Fish and Chips Day today
John Dory is a fish I've only seen gliding gracefully in a big display tropical fish tank.
Back at the ranch, I made my own battered haddock yesterday which was lovely. I read on a video that haddock is better than cod for this as it's drier. Anyone ever heard that?

Re: National Fish and Chips Day today
I have started choosing haddock when I go to a Rick Stein fish & chip shop in Lytham. It is always very moist when enclosed in batter and maybe sweeter than cod.
I'll watch out for John Dory, so thanks for the recommendation.

Thank you , I like most fish , apart from mackerel and sardines , that I’ve tried so will have to give that one a go x

Sorry, I can't edit my post now. I meant Rick Stein recommended fish & chip shop.
