Re: Croquetas de Jamón Españolas: Spanish Ham Croquettes
I have a fairly large piece of cooked ham to use up and this thread has inspired me to make croquettes for supper tonight. So thanks for the idea Member 461.

What wine do you usually pair with Ham Croquettes ?
I like a Rosé from Provençe or Navarra .. Or a Prosecco ..
Have a lovely day ..

Have a lovely " wet season " ..
Today it simply belted down - from 5am until just about an hour ago.
To make matters worse, we had a 9 hour blackout.

Morning Member 461.
You can try a few soya brands at your hotel breakfasts in the morning. I know in Spain they present so many styles of milks.
That's where I picked up my utter adoration for the almond milk!
Perhaps, soy milk could be a
good alternative .. Is there a Brand that you
recommend ?

To me all soy “dairy” has a really unpleasant aftertaste, special mention to Alpro yogurt, I’m astonished anyone can eat a whole tub. Bleugh
However I have a friend who is dairy intolerant, and she is settling on Oatly oat milk. I’ve tasted it, and it’s fine, quite nice in fact. She has tried recipes for making it, be we are thinking you maybe need a Vitamix or other high speed blender.

Thanks Member 461...we have just arrived in Palma, our final destination for this trip, SO busy, after staying in quieter parts. When rested, we will certainly be exploring, and I have noted your recommendations. It was a 3 day wedding, wonderful, but tiring for old folk like us.

Patpoyntz,
Wow !
Yes, Palma de Mallorca
is "hopping" at this time
of year ..
Lots of tourists.
However, it is a lovely
city .. With great food shops and
bakeries and also tapas bars !!!!!
A stroll to the Port is
absolutely a Marvel ..
If you like Sobrasada, a
spreadable peppery sausage,
Mallorca is the designation of
origin of this product.
If you have some time, the Cathedral
LA SEU is truly worth seeing.
THE OLD QUARTER OF PALMA,
try: Ensaimadas, Crespells,
COCAROIS sort of a a half moon
pie stuffed with chard or cheese,
and SEE THE PASTRIES AT:
FORN FONDO, is the name !!
HORCHATA:
Also known for "Chufas", an earthy
almond truffle like tuber, prepared
in " a beverage " .. Sweet ! and
on ice. It is called Horchata ..
Check at the Tourist Office or
The Hotel, where the Arab and
Gothic and Historic Districts
are. Fascinating gourmet
souvenirs !!
Also: GATÓ, a flourless almond
lemon tart .. Quite lovely with a
tea or café ..
COCO: This is a Wood burning
fired bread dough, pizza without
cheese, traditionally prepared with
Evoo, onion, garlic, bell pepper and
veggies .. Usually fresh chard or spinach.
They come in all shapes, sizes and
varieties now !!
If you can tour the Tramuntana Mountains to see the
museum - home
of Fréderic Chopin, this is truly quite amazing.
Safe travels. Enjoy.

Re: Croquetas de Jamón Españolas: Spanish Ham Croquettes
Just arrived home late yesterday, have a mountain of washing to do and the garden needs urgent attention, but wanted to say thank you Member 461 for your helpful suggestions.
We managed to see a lot of the island after the wedding, staying in 3 different hotels, and had 5 nights at a lovely small hotel in the centre of Palma, ( very near Forn Fondo) which we loved. We had wonderful food everywhere we went. Didn’t get to any of your croqueta places unfortunately, but still had plenty of good ones! I think we had most of the local foods you mentioned...
We did the horrendous drive up the mountain to the famous lamb restaurant, Es Verger, and it was closed!.....the views from up there were amazing though, so worth the drive.
We loved the fish restaurant at Cala Deià, featured in ‘The Night Manager’, Ca’s Patro March.
We ate at both Michelin star restaurants in Palma, Adrian Quetglas, and Marc Fosh, both excellent.
I think our favourite meal though was on our last night, at La Bodeguilla, a small place just near our hotel....
We will definitely return to Mallorca...just wish we didn’t have to fly there, I hate airports!

I hadn’t appreciated that the fish restaurant at Cala Deia was the one in the Night Manager! It was rather less swish 25 years ago
Sounds like you had a great time!

Re: Croquetas de Jamón Españolas: Spanish Ham Croquettes
Yes, Sue, it was a lovely holiday, and a real change for us, as we are usually in our campervan when in Europe, and usually do a lot of self catering, which we enjoy.
The restaurant is still very un-swish, it was not the ‘smart’ place where the row occurred, but where the son went missing. It probably has not changed since you were there!
