I'm a dragon too - and a Scorpio - and born when Mars was in the ascendancy!
I've drunk with Koreans too - by god, it was hard to keep up, but I did my best!

A day early I'm afraid, but the chicken had to be finished today. Good old easy standby with what I happened to have to hand, so it's Chicken and Green Pepper with Black Bean Sauce. This used to be one of my favourite takeaway meals.

Your Chinese chicken looks really wonderful Sakkarin!

What is in the top left bowl?

Update: Just realised that it will be the black bean sauce.

No, it's black beans soaking in soy sauce and a bit of shaoxing - using a premade sauce would be cheating! But then the one next to it is a glug of that Knorr cheat stock with water, which is cheating too...

There's a few szechuan peppercorns in with the garlic and ginger, and a spoonful of chilli bean sauce for a bit of heat.

I must make that soon and will forgive you the Knorr Chicken Stock because it is good!

Neigh

Born in the year of the horse, used to be a fine chestnut :D

BM I love Fuchsia’s Sichuan book, but find EGOR a more practical source of everyday meals, on a par with the Ken Hom, which I also have.

I really am very, very sorry - but whenever I hear the word "rissole" my mind translates it into something rather rude.

In Elizabeth Ayrton's The Cookery of England, there's a recipe for spherical pork rissoles, euphemistically entitled 'Gilded Apples' :D

Thanks Sue. Oh dear, I've got too many books. Maybe one more wouldn't hurt...

Regarding the topic, I'm a virgin rooster.

I've made my mind up, I'm going for 檸檬雞 tonight, Sunflower's recipe.

Just need to pop down to the supermarket for some 雞.

EDIT: Clue - cut and paste those characters into Google translate to demystify!

Good call, although I prefer the Thai version, as it has loads of 乾辣椒...

Meantime here's tonights offering (Lemon Chicken) from Sunflower's recipe:

EDIT: P.S. Unusual ingredient - Custard Powder!

That wouldn't do for Mrs B at all. Our local Thai restaurant does a version without them, or many of them, which she does like. It has changed hands since the last time she had the dish though - we're going back on 14th, she might be in for a shock!
