Absolutely, Jeral.Somwhere I´ve got a Thai Vegetarian cookbook which has a lovely salad with broccoli stems. The author suggests peeling the stems and eliminating all the "white bits" - which tend to be woody, then blanch them. That´s what I´ve always done. They can then be frozen and used when ever you like.

I don’t usually find I need to peel broccoli stems, I just trim off the knobbly bits, and often use in stir fries
Re: What's everyone cooking this week?
I'm just marinating a tuna steak for 20 mins to go with some sugar snaps I found in the freezer, for which I'll separately toast some sesame seeds to sprinkle liberally. Plus some string fries and a dip. Decided I woz 'ungry.

The kipper fillets and rice dish was very nice.
If I see kippers for 66p in the future I will cook it again.

Did veg soup in the week, or rather old veg soup, using up anything that was getting a bit old.
Then Wednesday got trout from fish van.
Looks a bit dry, and it was!

We’re joining Suffs for pizza Saturday this evening. The dough is currently on its first prove. I’ll top mine with tomato sauce and left over greens in creme fraiche from last nights pasta dish. My OH will have salami.
The tomato sauce smells great, I’m really looking forward to it.

Last night’s dinner was just about right due to the weather, sausage and mash, roasted purple carrots and Savoy cabbage with onion gravy.
Tonight we also have pizza! I’m not as industrious as Suffs and Smitch however, I tend to buy thin crust margarita pizza then add my own toppings. Think tonight’s will be pancetta, artichokes and extra mozzarella. We usually share one large one and have it with a side salad.

We've got a couple of portions of COOK curries in the freezer and some left-over rice in the fridge, and I was planning to use a huge bunch of spring greens as an additional dish.
This recipe on Mamta's site is theoretically for cabbage - any variety, but I would have thought I could prepare the greens in the same way and use them instead? What do you think?

Thx

Ooh KC2 I like the look of that recipe. I don’t have any mango powder, would I have to get that from a specialist store?
I often sub any green leaves for cabbage. Spring greens, spinach, chard, anything like that. I think it would work rather well.

Hi WG, I got it at a local Middle Eastern shop that sells all manner of spices.
You can sub lemon juice, according to another of Mamta's variants of the dish that I looked at:

Night away from the stove for me tonight as I was up at 0520 to go to work.
J is making lamb curry with aubergine, dhal and rice.
I have a huge g&t and a bowl of crisps plus Craig Charles funk and soul on BBC Radio 6.
I also have the sofa and the woodburner.

I am making a paneer and pea makhanwala. More of a construction job than cooking though...

We made some apple and blackberry muffins a few days ago which have been providing breakfasts with fruit, yoghurt and coffee.
Heinz tomato soup and cheese rolls as a picnic on a long walk today.
Venison in juniper and red wine sauce tonight. Found a box of fudge and toffee in the pantry bought for us as a present earlier this year so one or two of those for dessert.

Re: What's everyone cooking this week?
We had a big dish of baked eggs with spinach, peppers, chorizo and hash browns this morning.
There’s a beef rib roast in the oven for later. Apple and blackberry crumble for after. I’m about to make some chocolate and pistachio truffles with eldest daughter so we may have one or two today if we have room.
Just thinking of ideas for leftover beef for the next few days. I think we might have a Thai beef salad and possibly leftover roast dinner pasties if there’s enough.
I saw a recipe for celery and chestnut soup with onion bread somewhere recently. I fancy it one day this week...I’ll have to try to remember where I saw it!

Re: What's everyone cooking this week?
We are having the harissa baked sea bass we had a couple of weeks ago.
Re: What's everyone cooking this week?
Breakfast was porridge with chopped pear and cinnamon. I made a pan of spiced squash and lentil soup, so dinner has just been a bowlful with a slice of toast.
I’m making a (veggie) roast for tea, really looking forward to it. We’ve got loads of root veg in the cupboard so will be good to use a few up.
