Dessert was a gateaux made like a fatless sponge but with added chopped walnuts and coffee, This is slit into three and each layer filled with lightly whipped cream and sliced strawberries and plain cream and whole strawberries on top.
:crying1 :crying1

And there was me absolutely CRAVING something sweet and delicious last night....
The only thing available was Nutella and Marie biscuits!!

I had cod to cook and also had some spinach, so I made Member 461's Sautéed Catalan Spinach. The flavours were lovely and the gentle crunch of the toasted pinenuts made such a difference.

The photo is not a good one. Sorry.

It's a super photo, Renee.
Very elegant, as Chef Michel would say.

I do so like pine nuts in things - but they are such price now!

I've got the rest of my melon stash to eat. Tony keeps saying it smells of alcohol in our kitchen - that'll be the perfect "just right" melon.
We'll have it in a big salad with parma ham and some leaves.

and I shall add pine nuts too.

Tonight we are having "Spinach & three cheese cannelloni" with asparagus and galic bread(homemade focaccia).
Possibly with "Piedmont Roasted Peppers" as a starter.

Friday baked trout en papillote, roasted med veggies and new potatoes :klingonbanana

If you ever get to Lidl at the right time, they sell little packs of very good pine nuts, good value. I store them in the freezer

Lidl here I come.
We've got a new one, with a drive through Starbucks.

I say the same thing, what is the point of a Drive Thru Costa/ Starbucks/ Coffee shop?

I made the cod again with the Catalan spinach. I made it properly this time!!! I am so ashamed of my previous attempt. What a fabulous meal it was. Thank you Member 461!

It was easy to make again Gill because I had the ingredients and just needed the cod. Too often I have discovered half a bag of pinenuts in my cupboard, completely out of date and they are too expensive to waste.

That looks absolutely lovely Rene. Just my sort of thing.

My hot cross buns are rising in the verandal which is warm in the sunshine. They will be distributed amongst the neighbours this afternoon. I've been doing this for the last 20 + years and the little boy next door asked M yesterday if I was making them because they are very nice for gouter (afternoon snack).

I've got a choice for tonight but since seeing Renee's lovely food I thing it will be natural smoked haddock Florentine. I've got some pate from our butcher for lunch.

I'm making mine on Sunday, Joan. I've got the cranberries in.

Nice to get a bit of inspiration from others' cooking posts, isn't it.

I'm having Catalan spinach yet again tonight, but with a salmon fillet. I still have spinach to use and some pinenuts.

Your smoked haddock Florentine will be lovely Joan!

How nice of that little boy to ask if you are making hot cross buns!
