Re: What's everyone cooking this week?
I think eldest daughter would like rose coco beans, they are her middle names
Breakfast was an omelette at the gym.
Lunch was a dressed crab with granary toast, lemon, a few leaves and some M&S lemon mayo.
Dinner was pasta with thick cut ham chunks, peas and mushrooms with a carbonara style egg yolk and parmesan sauce. We received a hamper off one of OHs customers so we had a some dessert bits from in there. I had a slice of ginger cake warmed up with a little double cream poured over.

AKA Borlotti beans, I think ... at least, that's how Asda sells them ...
Yup, I’m not sure if they are quite the same but certainly similar and I thought they’d have the right texture, which they did

Lunch was a turkey and chutney sandwich in the car after quite a long walk.
That will probably be the only turkey for us.
Tonight is chilli and tomorrow is a splendid seafood platter.

Supper tonight ... slices from the big glazed Suffolk sweet-cure gammon, buttery jacket potatoes, homemade pickled onions and green salad ... then mince pies. Happy Christmas everyone

If the savoury cheesecake works, I for one will want to know more!

That savoury one looks lush!

Thank you if you’re interested here’s the recipe
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/user/602874 ... cheesecake
But instead of shallots I added pigs in blankets cooked in a bit if caramelised onion chutney . I turned the temp down to 150 about halfway through as it was beginning to brown on top but inside quite liquid and I think I ended up cooking it for about 50 minutes

You're on fire, Amy!
I think I'll make a cheesecake for NYEve. You've inspired me.

Lunch today will be a ‘Chinese style’ broth made with the remains of the roast duck and other odds and ends (as discussed on Wild about Chatter) and noodles. Then supper will be a ‘tartiflette’ using smoked salmon bits rather than bacon, with the reblochon. While the oven’s hot I’ll pop a few more mince pies in there ... I’ve taken the frozen half of the batch of orange pastry out of the freezer so it’ll only take a few minutes to roll that out and make them.

Haha in my defence I made it for the ladies at work . Cut a tiny slither and it is rather good . Think some crumbled blue cheese in it would be nice
Re: What's everyone cooking this week?
Well done on self discipline when sitting before cheesecakes or quiches from which it is just too easy to cut another sliver, or three
Making puff pastry galette thingies today, where you diagonally cut and fold the corners into a star shape with filling in the middle. Different veggie combos planned, e.g. mushroom/garlic/leek, emmental/egg/broc, cherry toms & ?, I'll try rolling some parmesan/cheddar onto/into the ready-made pastry and see if it works.

I fancy giving this a try later in the week, the recipe is in a book called Nothing Fancy by Alison Roman that DS sent me for Christmas.

But what to sub for tomatillos? Or do you think it's just not worth it? Better not even to try?

.
Looks really good KC2. No actual sub for tomatillos, but they're physallis and a less sweet, larger cousin of Cape gooseberries which would be good in this dish imo. They might be available from the Southern hemisphere summer if you look around. Otherwise, anything tangy - more citrus or tomato variants would go well. Grapefruit would work well ..
