KK - I thought that it translated to "Jack of all trades, master of none".
Hahaha, Pampy; I think I´d give Jamie at least some credit for what he´s achieved, even though "managing restaurant chains" fails completely to enter into the equation!

One I haven’t been to but now on my list, having heard Alex James, the chef, on Sunday is Sardine LONDON by Old Street. I got the cookbook and it looks wonderful.

Re: The restaurants I've been to!
Thanks Luca. It's beautiful here in Tossa de Mar.
We try to find a new habit, but it's perfect for us.
Loads of public toilets mean the daily clean beach number is zero. We once saw it as high as 6.
Eu needs to be below 100.
Some places with the dreaded pay for loos Tony sags are like sewers.
When he does his open water swim, he declares "that wasn't a brown stick floating past my face"

Re: The restaurants I've been to!
We have lots of differing tomato salads.
One of my favourite brandadas.
Tony eats spicy pizzas always ordering extra pepperoni.
Home made of the house rigatoni with butifarra for me.
Pinchos and jamon and cheese.
Seafood razorclam and prawn linguine.
Albondigas con sepia, rather meatily strong i find but Tony's favourite from the region.
Fresh fresh sardines.
Which do nothing for me, but i can eat kippers any day.
More to follow when i remember my phone .....

Re: The restaurants I've been to!
On Monday we went to a a local restaurant we don't usually go to. I don't know why except we don't connect with the patron who we find very patronising.
He brough us menues in English but we said French was fine and he he asked if we tough we could manage.
When he the returned to take the orders he wanted to know how 4 English people spoke such good French. DD said that her parents had lived just down the road for years and both her and her father had been at French universitys. I then got the feeling he was not please that we lived down the road but we are'nt reguarls. WE have been a couple of times every years but he hasnever recognises us. It really doesnt make for good business sinse does it?
The food, as I said, was well cooked and presented but they only change their mneus twice a year which is just not enough. It suggests they don't realr cater for a local clientelle, just passing touriss and people staying in the hotel.

Re: The restaurants I've been to!
Well, a mixed blessing, Joan.
Where we are, there are a few places that recognise us from our yearly trips.
And greet us with so much love it puts us off.
We do like anonymity.
Slow network here, so can't upload photos.
Maybe in our next town ......
I had a super fresh tomato, tuna and pepper salad lazt evening.
And Tony a spaghetti carbonara.
Jolly holiday food, but nicely made.

Looks like a fab gastronomic holiday, gill.
With all that lovely food, mind the buttons on your waist-band don't go 'ping'

Indeedy, Binky.
Welcome back from your jolly hols.
Any dishes of note? There's usually a special meal evening of interest.
Ours was a mussels evening in Montcuq last year.
We had a beautiful asparagus and green spinach sauce dish last night.

Re: The restaurants I've been to!
No dishes of note, sadly. We try to eat vegetarian food as much as possible, and that can be quite a challenge in France.
Crustaceans are definitely verboten for us as my husband has an allergy to such seafood (fish is OK) and has been hospitalised on one occasion. So, our meals have been roughly crudités, salads, fish or pasta, dessert - nothing fancy or worthy of a pic.

Gill I don’t know how you attach your pics to your posts, but usually if I tap on a small thumbnail I can see a full size photo, but yours are just thumbnails and won’t zoom
Re: The restaurants I've been to!
Spent last weekend in Bristol.
Friday evening went to Browns - bit up market in a wonderful old building, used to be the Museum. Lovely woman to greet us, made sure we in a quiet part. Scallops as a starter - very good. Main - OH had whole lobster, mussels for me. Although lobster's claws were cracked, it became a real struggle. I hesitate to say the waiter was French, but he did remind us of the stereotypical Paris ones. Right from the start he didn't seem that interested. Then we had to ask for claw crackers, then for lobster pick and somehow that spoilt the meal, for the price we were paying we expected better service. The place wasn’t busy. Mussels were OK, bit small but the cream wine sauce was delicious.
Saturday lunch was frittata and salad at the Art Warehouse on the dockside. All fresh done and happy staff. Ordered and paid at the counter - salmon frittata, melon and cucumber salad for OH, coleslaw for me. When the food came there was no coleslaw, not a problem, apologies, came almost immediately. Asked whether we'd paid and was told not to worry. When we’d finished went to counter to pay for the coleslaw. They refused. I insisted. They refused - nicely of course. Just lovely. If we'd known the salad bowls were going to be that size, we'd only have had one anyway!
Evening meal at hotel, the Bristol - early for theatre - OH had ox cheek - fabulous, not strong as expected, lamb for me, just as good.
Sunday evening meal - grandson and girlfriend now live in Bristol - went to the Lido in Clifton. A refurbished Edwardian open air lido. Lovely atmosphere. Three of us had sea bream, crisp skin with soft flesh. Cooking perfection. Grandson had pork bavatte - once we’d worked out what it was.
Breakfast in the hotel was a giant buffet! Very good, cut your own bread (with blunt knife), really wide choice. Wish I’d taken a photo of the fried eggs. Obviously done in a ring so each looked perfect - just didn’t seem right somehow, but that’s really nit picking, isn’t it?
