Local pub, always good food, but some of you may remember awhile back a photo of their sausage and mash which looked ‘orrible. Fortunately, they’ve changed the presentation, added onion rings as was OH’s choice. Could do with a bit more colour.

Scampi and chips for me, chips tasted as good as they look.

OH ordered a dessert plus two spoons. Lemon Roulade - lovely taste of lemon, but restricted myself to just two spoonfuls, though had my share of the fruit. She's eager to get going!

What's the odd looking thing to the right of the strawberries?

The sausage, mash and onion rings are what they are, I think the greenery is possibly too much colour, as it looks very raw, clearly for presentation only!

Kumquat. it's masking four raspberries.

Certainly the parsley didn't do anything for the dish, but some peas or green beans would've been nice.

Ah!

Actually you mention two spoons for the dessert, I wonder if you needed two for the sausages too it's so huge!

That’s my lack of photo skills. Cropping and then reducing size to post, enhances them. They're normal size sausages.

What fabulous meals Petronius! I think I would have chosen the scampi and chips and swapped some of my chips for an onion ring! What a lovely dessert!

I might have eaten both. I yearn for a good British banger, and especially as bangers ´n ´mash. I don´t think I´ve eaten that since I was at Uni - 1970-75  But I die for Scampi and Chips as well. I think it´s in my DNA.
It´s also in my wife´s - and she´s Venezuelan, Give her a choice of Sautée de Veau avec foie gras et morilles de Provence, and Scampi - she´d go for the second option any day!! :gonzo

Just an observation on the presentation, Petronius. (Your photo is great, by the way!)
Some dishes are just what they are. Bangers & Mash, well , it´s delicious comfort food. No need to tart it up, as the pub did . And the parsley is unnecessary; doesn´t add anything. I´d eat a whole bucket of those onion rings, but not balanced precariously on top of an already precarious tower of bangers & mash.
The principle of good food in the kitchen: K.I.S.S. :gonzo

Yep, we are scampi and chips peebs too.
If we are in a town and hunting out bar food - & see scampi on the menu, it's like winning the Premium Bonds.

Nice looking food you have on your doorstep there, Dennis.

Here in Cheltenham it's burgers everywhere. Gourmet, natch.
Do we really need another burger restaurant here? There's another one opening soooooon.

We've got one of those! :thumbsup

To be honest not sure if they do burgers, but a vegan cafe opened here last Thursday and a restaurant on March 4th.

Where to start, fortunately for OH I don’t care for onion rings so no swapping needed.

Change those three straight sausages and no onion rings for three large curved sausages place on top of each other and, believe me, presentation did matter.

KISS, I’ll go with that. Not sure where it can from, but at home I like to have some green and red on the plate - red maybe carrots of course. I plate up for OH trying for it to look good.

Good food around us, that’s true. Four or five pubs that we visit on a regular basis, the two of us once a week and with friends once a month.

Not a lot in town, coffee places yes, but good restaurants have never done well. Wetherspoons also has had an impact. In fact the lady whose opening the vegetarian/vegan restaurant in town, closed down her pub because of them.

The new vegan cafe is very small so I’m keeping fingers crossed for them.

Another pub!

Sunday Lunch in Devon Daughter’s village, we were invited so daughter could buy her Mum a Mother’s Day meal. Something to do with being early in the month, just got paid, might not be enough in the kitty come the 22nd!

I’m not a photographer, I just press buttons. A day of heavy showers, but the sun was bright so shadows got in the way.

SiL's beef, with roasted veg, yorkshire pud and gravy. A goodly selection of fresh veg came with it.

My confit of duck with same accompaniments. Very tasty.

And daughter had a pavlova.

But cutting into it, it looked like a crunchy bar. She said it was burnt, I tried it and it certainly was. As we left she took it to the kitchen, sorry etc., no-one else had complained. On the way out got chatting to some friends, two of them had it, thought it was burnt but ate it anyway!

Pavlova was taken off the bill and so was OH’s Creme Brûlée.

We're doing our best to ensure local pubs still have business. OH had scotch egg (lovely soft centre, not quite runny) plus chips and salad. Perfect I'd say. I had fish pie, not too creamy, with baby leaves within. Plus cheese topping. Really good.
