Bubbles sound good

I never think of champagne other than brut as that’s mainly what my friends like. Though I have been known to serve birthday cake with a sweetish Asti Spumante

We've had a bottle of demi-sec for ages, never seem to find the occasion to use it. I don't understand, given the people we know who prefer sweeter styles of wine.

Perfect with cake :wino

The demi-sec worked a treat. The proof is the number of empty bottles put out this morning!

Cooer, did you wake up to find the passed-out party guests raiding the fridge for leftovers?

Sounds like your thought and efforts made for a lovely birthday treat :)

Thanks jeral and Renee. We did indeed but i'm afraid any fridge raiders would have been unlucky. There were only 2 things left - some local nougat and 2 Chinese pancakes. Zero food waste :klingonbanana

Afraid we always go to town with our pancakes on Shrove Tuesday ... we rarely eat more than one course for our supper, but tonight it’ll be pancakes filled with Emmental and Suffolk cured smoked ham and baked in a cheese sauce, followed by pancakes with lemon and honey or possibly maple syrup (think there’s some in the cupboard).

OMG Suffs - that's pancake overdose - you might need rehab after that lot!

I'll be making the batter later on this afternoon - just plain this year, I did green onion pancakes last year, but fancy a trad lot now, just lemon juice drizzled over for me - it's been a while, Himself likes jam on his or just butter. :yum

Isn’t Pancake Overload what it’s all about? Think Mardi Gras :birthday-dancer
After all, we have six weeks of Lent to be abstemious ;)

We have got some coleslaw left from yesterday in case we feel the need to be healthy ;)

Suffs, those pancakes sound dreamy, I am getting hungry at the idea of tonight dinner now.

So we have had pancake overload today. Fluffy pancakes with berries and yoghurt with honey for breakfast. Tonight will be Indian pancakes made from chickpea flour with a thali type arrangement including; Bombay spuds, gobi manchurian, saag and daal, with green chutneyand raita as dinner. Then a couple of crepes with sugar and lemon and a dollop of clotted cream for pudding.

Safe to say my Monday to Thursday kcal allowance of 1300kcals is taking a beating today :klingonbanana

I've "google translated " that recipe Joan, the English looks like a pretty good approximation, although I'll be leaving the spider out if I get round to trying it...

I'm also intrigued as to why the recipe includes 1 minute's baking.

The original doesn’t mention baking

The summary at the top says “Cuisson: 1min” cuisson usually being cooking rather than baking, so reading through the whole I think it just means each batch of three pieces will take one minute in the oil at 170 C

I have a spider, I think it would be quite handy here to lift the fried strips

I love translated articles  I wish everyday language was as such. Also, deep fried anything rolled in sugar is a winner for me.

So my dinner changed slightly, gobi saag curry, daal, Bombay spuds and chicken tikka with gram flour pancakes. Too full for sweet crepes now though

As I have only got self raising flour in the kitchen I will be making Scotch Pancakes with a St Clements sauce/topping.
