Finger Limes
Anyone use them. Or even find them?
I've been trying to work out what the little zingy caviar blobs are in a dish we had in Cadiz.
And realize it was finger limes.
It featured twice in the recent Great British Menu, and I could see that was the lovely mystery ingredient on the plate with the prawns.
I've got my eyes open for them in any shops, but haven't seen them anywhere. Although Belgian Endive has managed to find them in Paris over Christmas

Re: Finger Limes
They are certainly available in London somewhere as Wander, a restaurant with an Aussie chef a few doors down from me, uses them
Not sure whereto buy - might try Turnips in the Borough Market

Re: Finger Limes
At £317 a kilo I think I'll give them a miss for now
And at that price you can guess which finger...

Re: Finger Limes
I'm not sure that's the going rate Sakkarin - I can't see Wander paying that much at the prices they charge!
Not on the current menu, so possibly not in season, they were there in October I think

Re: Finger Limes
Those prices were from the site Member 461 linked to. Regarding those Wander prices, coincidentally I was shocked at the prices in the charmless cafe-type Japanese noodle bar next door to my local oriental shop yesterday. They must have customers, as they've been there for at least 10 years, but I've never seen anyone in there.
Spicy Chili Prawn Spring Roll £7.50
Salmon Avocado California Roll £9.30
Spicy Beef Miso Ramen £19.00
Beef Katsu Curry £19.20
UPDATE: They've been there 16 years apparently!

Re: Finger Limes
I have a finger lime tree - got it towards the end of last year so it hasn't flowered/fruited yet.

Re: Finger Limes
cripes. That's Harrods prices.
I've seen them on Ocado and Amazon.
I'd be very interested if you see them in Borough Market, Sue. As I'm in London in May, and could take a butchers hook.
If you see them at la Boqueria or the Corte Ingles, that will be fortunate.
If we travel to Catalunya as per usual, I might be able to see for myself.
Or maybe our Asian shops in town will have some?
This is the dish I still want to recreate. The green balls had me flummoxed - I'm still not sure if it's finger limes.
Prawns, wakame, sesame, cucumber, radish, creamy lemony sauce - perhaps lemon mayo.
Microherbs. The fruit pieces are mango.
Beats a prawn cocktail.

Sakkarin,
I have read on the website: 50 grams are 15.85 Pounds ..
I am uncertain as to what that is in Euros.
Many Michelin and Avant Garde Chefs here in Spain, create caviars via Nitrogen Liquid from fresh fruits, seafood and vegetables as well ..
Have a nice evening.

Re: Finger Limes
50g for £15.85, times 10 for 500g for £158.50. Times 2_for 1000g/1kg for £317.
14ct gold plated.
According to XE.com, £15.85 is €17.90, while £317 is €358
I thought that finger was the international friendship gesture.

Re: Finger Limes
Well that´s a first. I´d never heard of finger limes until today.
As for the little green balls - I wonder if that might be masago, dyed green? I had a rainbow sushi in Mexico and they used that.

Re: Finger Limes
ha ha ha. Excellent answer Mark.
Masago. New one on me.
Sounds lovely tho as a garnish.
At some point I we shall go back I'm sure when we gird ourselves to drive back down to the south coast.

Re: Finger Limes
I've never used these.
I thought at first you were referring to Buddha's hand citrus fruit, but these are completely different.
Going to look out for them!

Here is a recipe I found in the 4/2019 Delicious AUS using the theme ingredient
