Ahhh! Light dawns!!!

There's lots of crabbing goes on around the pier ... some folk do think that they’re going to catch their own supper. Howe ver what you can do is walk up the beach to East Runton and gather your own winkles ... you can boil them up in a pan on the beach and eat them there and then ... if you have a pin :thumbsup

You can get tubs of jellied eels and cockles and whelks too on Norwich Market :yum

Nooooooo…..!!

Now then.....cockles are something I have intimate knowledge of - just thinking of them makes me drool, but they have to be the best - Penllergaer cockles from close to where I was raised - fat & sweet - certainly no salt added, in fact nothing needed at all apart for a little sprinkle of vinegar if that is your thing..... :yum oh yesssssss!

i absolulely adore cockles in fact if it is ultra fresh and lives in a shell, from winkles upwards I'm right there.

It is one of my sadnesses that I don't get to eat them very often these days.

When I lived by the sea we used to pick cockles and eat them raw like oysters

We did know where the water was clean of course

You can open them by twisting two against each other, hinge to hinge

No way I could eat 500 gms of prawns at one sitting, heads on or not.
Still - we had several different types of prawns when in Barcelona.

Never got to try all these in the market, though!

We had some razor clams as part of the dinner. I have to say I wasn´t particularly impressed, but the other courses made up for it!
I can´t remember whether the black things in the back are winkles or small clams, Petronius. What ever; I´m sure they´d have gone down a treat!
