When I was a lunch time "server" at primary school (many, many moons ago) I was asked to collect a jug of custard to pour on the pudding, which I duly did - only it was salad cream! Lots of unhappy kids lost their steamed sponge that day!

Dijon Mustard spread on sliced of salt beef, served with pickled cucumber and rye bread
Re: "Food Pairings Dominoes"
A joint of salted and rolled brisket, simmered slowly with onions, CARROTS and suet dumplings, and served with chunks of floury maincrop potatoes steamed and sprinkled with fresh parsley; everything served in ‘stew plates’ , the beef carved in slices with lots of the cooking liquor. Knife, fork and soup spoon to be provided
along with freshly made English mustard.
