Sorry to hear about your problems. Cancer is a bit of a bore. The treatment can be "a bit sore" but I got through mine and I'm currently in remission. Stick at it and do exactly what the doctor says. One or two people on my ward thought that they knew better and they made things more difficult for themselves.

You certainly have been missed Binky. Thank goodness the Pinot Grigio isn't off limits!
Wishing you well with the new treatment - and it will be good to see you chat, even if not about food! :newhuggy

Thank you for your kind thoughts. No need to feel sorry for me, I am sitting here with a lovely Pinot Grigio and OH is slaving away in the kitchen doing dinner. Then we shall watch a recording of Gardeners World which is so relaxing (don't you just love Monty Don and his fab little doggie).

Speaking of wine, we usually got ours in bulk on the way back from holidays in France a couple of times a year. However, holidays are no longer a possibility so we've started to buy from Laithwaites (who advertise prolifically) and I have to say we've been impressed so far with the quality and quick delivery. Can recommend them without hesitation.

All the best Binky, so nice to hear from you, hope the PG slipped down well

My dad was a huge fan of Laithwaites, he liked the wine and as he got older and more deaf he really appreciated the way the customer service people could make allowances without being patronising

Ha! "Columbian Supremo". Sounds like some gangland drug cartel overlord!

I used to buy 'half a pound of your finest Colombian' from the deli of a weekend. At one time we had three independent delis in town. None now, not a sausage, nor indeed a salami.

I've had an account with Laithwaites for years. I have a dedicated contact who knows the sort of wines I like, and at what times of the year, who rings me once a month or so.

Axel and I visited a friend yesterday and she had the most wonderful meringue-topped gateau. Small wonder that it is called "Himmelstorte" (Heaven's gateau). Gundi really outdid herself.
Two layers of light sponge cake around a cream and redcurrant filling, topped with meringue and almond flakes. Yummm!!!
