When we moved before the days of mobile phones, the packers had packed our telephones, and of course we had no idea in which box.
I had to run up and down the road to the nearest phone box all day to deal with various issues!

Ha ha ha.
I wouldn't know how to find a public phone nowadays. Do they exist?

My last move I was in uber-admin mode. Box A, Box B, Box C etc. With a spreadsheet of inventory & contents, itemised down to the stapler and sellotape within.
It was far too much work, & a waste of time.

MIL always says 'When you move house ... the first thing you must do is make up your bed ... then it's ready when you're tired and you don't have to faff around sorting it out.'

MiL is right. Even if they are all in the same room to begin with.

Will do.
When we come back from holiday, the very first thing I do is iron the bed, to take the chill off.
It's far more pleasant to get into when you are dog tired.

Wouldn't an electric blanket be easier?

Probably, yes.
Although I'm one of those people who is always boiling in bed, so I wouldn't really want one on a daily basis.
The only time I've needed an electric blanket was living in Scotland. It was perishing at night on the east coast, Rainbow. Brrrrr.

.

Yay! Congratulations and good luck with move Gill. How exciting!

On the fridge choice, it's a tough call. The black one looks configured a lot like a Smeg, freezer at the bottom which is good IMO, and is actually pretty good all round except that it really was short on space for tall items. The Smeg had a horizontal bottle rack above the drawers but it was still PITA.

The red one has more or less the same number of shelves but you get a lot of extra height space - good for tall containers etc and for stacking. I think I'd be inclined to go with that one - pity the freezer doesn't have it's own door tho - and a separate dedicated freezer. We have a fridge freezer with a relatively smallish freezer space plus a separate chest freezer and that works out really well.

And enjoy your holiday!

Everything went super well, thank you.
The only glitch is the previous owners have left a lot of rubbish around. As getting to a refuse site is tricky, but not impossible, I've booked a slot at 3pm Friday.
Honestly, I have enough of my own rubbish to get rid of :gonzo

They've left the place immaculate so I cannot complain.
The house is smaller than we both remember, it's lucky we aren't clutter bugs. But the extension plans are going to be required sooner rather than later.

That uber sized shed is going to have to be smaller.

Good morning all :D :mug:
Glad the move went relatively smoothly Gill. A shame you have some rubbish to shift, but these are strange times and as you say, at least the house is clean. I hope your new home is everything you’ve hoped for :D

Morning Suffs.
Happily ploughing through my things to do list. One of which is to book a lakeside brasserie for Tony's birthday at the end of the month.
It also promises to be my local gym perhaps when that side of things opens.

More casual than we usually go for, but he can get steak frites.
And the setting over Spring lake is delightful. We can walk there and back too: https://www.lakeside-bar.co.uk/?fbclid= ... JSSgaJ60Io

Zero, I always find it frustrating to lay bottles and liquids down in the fridge.
They take up more space, and I don't like stacking other products on top.

I think the Stoves will eliminate this. And like you have, we are already planning our additional dedicated freezer purchase.
It doesn't need to be big.

I've just bought a safe.
Never had one before, but one needs a bit of security these days. Sadly.

Glad it all went smoothly, Gill, and I hope you had an excellent night's sleep! What a gorgeous location for Tony's birthday meal!

Our next door neighbours moved out last Wednesday. It's also the day the dustmen come and they got rid of a lot. But the front garden is full of stuff that they obviously cleared out too late for the dustmen.

There is also virtually no sign of the people who are moving in.We're hoping that doesn't mean that they're planning to do a major rebuild that will mean we get noise for the next 6 months or a year. It's been happening up and down the street and on the parallel street behind, where we share a garden fence. No sooner does one lot finish than another lot starts.

Good that the move went well Gill

We cleared out my MiL's place in France, got people to take away the utter tat (old mattresses etc) and the bric-a-brac, OH was worried that we'd left too much but P. and I though anyone taking on a really old property expected a certain amount of picturesque junk, I'd have brought home a set of chairs like the ones van Gogh painted if I'd had a bigger vehicle

Blimey, good luck in the new house.

If it's smaller than the old one, you'll just have to adapt and downsize...
