actifry
anyone got one.
Does it fry to crisp. I'm thinking of one for those rare occasions when Tony asks for chips.
My deep fat fryers are great, but mine trips the electrics.
And open pans of fat on the hob make my skin crawl.
Actifry - any good?

Re: actifry
I got one last Christmas and am really pleased with it. The important thing in getting crisp chips is the potato that you use. I've found the best to be Wilja (sp?). You can make far more than chips in the Actifry - I do quick "roast" potatoes and parsnips. I also do a recipe that's in the book provided with it - soy and sesame salmon, which I love. It's just soy sauce, lemon juice, paprika, honey, sesame seeds and cubes of salmon, which cooks in about 8 minutes.
A great advantage is that you don't have to watch it too closely, as you would if deep frying. The latest model can cook on 2 layers. It's expensive but I'm glad I've got it.

Re: actifry
I would be interested I an ActiFry but only if I can cook food that has been egg and brad crumbed in it
Does this work, or as I suspect does the whirling make it come off?
I've asked this question several times in various contexts, but never got a straight answer, thoughts anyone?
People just go on and on about chips, I like chips but don't need a dedicated chip maker.

Re: actifry
I had one and found it pretty useless, chips not as I like them and not much use for anything else.
Sorry to sound so negative but everyone is different.

Re: actifry
hmmmmmm.
Mixed reviews, thank Pampy & Jean.
Yes, Sue.
I'd be interested in more than just a chip maker.
I've planted the seed with Tony. He might buy one for me, and he might not. If he does I shall be able to answer that question.

Re: actifry
Renee, someone is asking if the paddle is taken out or not on the link?
What do you think?
Just musing.
I have a stirio (pot stirrer automatic paddle).
I wonder if I could have a go at "roast" potatoes today with it, a little oil, and replicate the idea?

Re: actifry
Gill, it seems that the paddle has to be used to prevent food falling into the motor. I haven't got one, but am very tempted!

Re: actifry
There's loads of sites on t'internet with Actifry recipes - just Google for them. I'm using mine tonight to make sesame soy salmon.
Re: actifry
I haven't really got room for one, unless I get rid of my halogen oven, which I use for grilling. I can see what's happening.
Re: actifry
Seems a pretty useless recipe if you can only cook half of the meat in one go. Do two of you eat while the other two wait for the second batch to cook?

Re: actifry
The instructions don't make sense, Sue. It says to cut the meat into pieces weighing 20g to 30g and use flour, egg and crumbs. No.4 says to add a 200g/7oz portion of veal. Is it me??? I am a bit tired tonight!
Nice to see you, btw!

Re: actifry
Thanks
A recipe is one thing, but I'd like testimony from an ordinary punter who has successfully made it
Still not convinced it would replace a deep fryer for the things I actually prefer deep fried (schnitzel is in my experience pan fried)

Re: actifry
Interestingly I asked on Amazon if the Actifry was suitable for food such as croquettes, or even fish fingers, that had been coated in egg and breadcrumb
Amazon have been unable to get any reply from people who reviewed the gadget although it has 131 customer reviews and 31 answered questions

Re: actifry
I tend to watch Youtube independent demos. (Just Google "Youtube Actifry").
The noise alone would drive me mad judging it by presenters having to shout over it.
I've noticed that some seem to prefer the Delonghi version, e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CxN9xmsWCw
that starts with crumbed pork (then see "Next up").
I have to say that that noise would drive me mad too.
Edit PS: Having watched a couple of dishes, they seem to take forever to cook (prep done beforehand) including starting and stopping to add ingredients that cook in a different time. I reckon the whole thing would drive me mad

Re: actifry
If anyone looking for a actifry, I strongly recommend the Philips airfryer. Actifry is slow and the paddle is a pain. Philips airfryer I had it for 2 years now still love it and use it few times a week. Chips comes out really crisp in about 12- 15 min. Cook very fast. Chicken pieces nicely browned with crispy skin in about 18 -20 minutes. Another advantage is all the fat will drip to the bottom of the basket. (One tip if you got one of this, line the bottom with few layers of damp paper towel to absorb the fat making cleaning easier and avoid fat splatting onto the heating element giving out lots of smoke)

Thanks Sunflower, that's helpful
Nice to see you round again

Re: actifry
Hi Renee. That's the one. The price is very low at the moment. Used to be £99. This airfryer is ok up to 2 descent size portions, not ideal for bigger family.

Re: actifry
Thanks for the link, Renee. Tony has just bought it.
Good morning to you, Sunflower. If feels like ages since we were in Val Patisserie having a chat, & waiting for Tony.
Lovely day that one.
a very timely recommendation, as we can seemingly get it delivered before Christmas.
