I had my gallbladder removed in August last year and it has totally changed my life. However, I still struggle sometimes with rich food so am fairly careful about what I eat. I can cope with properly deep fried stuff as it isn’t normally too greasy but creamy sauces can give me heartburn.

Well I'm pleased things are looking better for you, Smitch.
Have you tried soya cream? Or is that a no-no.
I ask, as I think it's a lovely product.

Re: What's everyone eating this week?
Wednesday´s Itinerary included an amazingly fascinating historical tour of the Urban City of Girona & Galettes ( Buckwheat crepe pancake Savoury Pastries ) ..
Our lunch was a delighting rustic stone walled and wooden cosy niche in the historic distric called: La Vedette de Bretonne ..
This tiny rustic bistro is known for their Galettes ( a buckwheat crepe - pancake ) that is turned up on all 4 sides, and the ingredients are served on the bed within the 4 walls of the buckwheat pastry .. They are baked to order and simply scrumptuous ..
I had the Napo which is an Italian one, filled with black olives, fresh mozzarella, anchovies .. and fresh basil .. Sort of a caprese salad inside the buckwheat pastry ..
They are about the size of a " Pizza " !
My colleague who accompanied me on this part of our trip, had the Popeye The Sailorman, which houses the ingredients of: spinach, blue cheese, goat cheese and honey and it was marvelous too .. ( we had fork bits of each other´s ) ..
The Buckwheat pastries are 8 Euros including beverage ( a wine or beer or soft drink or sparkling or still water ) ..
The atmosphere takes one back approx 3 or 4 centuries .. Quite recommended ..

Can I ask if you are paid for advertising the hotels and restaurants that you promote?

To All Members,

Re: What's everyone eating this week?
We are in for a treat tonight. Unless I burn it!
I got a beautiful Dover sole this morning and it is prepared and ready to grill simply with some mange tout peas and buttered steamed baby potatoes with lots of chives.
Dessert is to be damson (yes damson!) and cinnamon oat crumble and I might just go to town with some clotted cream brought from the UK by the friend who picked the damsons from his garden for me.
On Saturady I have promised 4 friends a curry evening. I shall make a mildsih passanda and a much less mild kashmiri chicken dish with the usual salads and chutneys and, hopefully some HM naan breads.
Off to stonr some damsons right now. I wonder if they woul fit into my cherry stoner?

I saw a vid, where you stone [cherries] froot with a straw. Just push it down over a bottle neck, and the stone should drop.
I've been to Aldi.
I was on my way to Waitrose, but felt a rush of ennui at the familiarity of the shop.
Just a salad tonight, with Aldi greek cheese, and aldi ham. Boiled eggs on the hob at the moment.
How do you make your passanda, Joan?

I fried a fillet of gilt head bream and made a prawn sauce, after marinating the prawns in oil, smoked paprika and crushed garlic, which I fried and then added cream. I served with sweetcorn, flat green beans and a jacket potato.

Hi Renee,
I love the sound of your fish. It reminds me of a dish my ex-mil used to make with a thick slab of cod with a brown shrimp sauce. She was over from her home abroad and staying at her sister's flat in Chelsea. She was allowed free rein at the wine rack.... and chose an absolutely delicious bottle of wine. We googled it later to see where it could be bought and would have had to win the lottery to buy it!
As for what I've eaten today.... not a lot. For various reasons I won't go into I sort of lost my food mojo for a while. I did however eat a chicken sandwich and loads of homegrown cherry tomatoes.
I have enjoyed making a few dishes recently, including a lovely Shabu Shabu and am going to endeavour to make the effort more regularly. I have the incentive as eldest son is coming back to the UK in October for a few weeks, perhaps more. Yippee!!

Hi Luca, it's so nice to hear from you!
Yes, I did take a photo and usually use the website Imgur to get the link, but they're having problems at the moment which should be sorted out soon... hopefully by tomorrow, so I'll post the photo then.
You're so like me, I often lose my food mojo. Things happen in our lives, but I get back to enjoying cooking eventually. This board helps me so much and I have enjoyed trying out so many recipes.

Re: What's everyone eating this week?
Yes, Renée, life does get in the way. Although trivial in the grand scheme, things like losing posts and websites being down doesn't help either. My trivial bugbear is that I took some (bought) pastry out of the fridge to bring to room temp and finished up using it at midnight. Several hiccups with the filling later... it was a very, very late bedtime once baked. Yay, pie didn't have a soggy bottom but a particular ingredient made it taste awful (= Bin job and tons of washing up = mojo dented.)
So today, a simple piece of haddock with a tin of reliable flavoursome fried aubergines, and blissfully negligible washing up. I'd rather have had your dinner Renée, so well done you for making a delicious meal with revived mojo

Re: What's everyone eating this week?
Joanbunting, I bet you didn't burn your sole; more likely watching said treat like a hawk, if watching simple YPs is anything to go by
Passanda takes me back to a resto that specialised in it, off limits to me (butter), but seemingly very enjoyable, as witnessed by this jealous vicarious bystander eating an "ordinary" curry. I'm sure your friends will leave with full tummies

I made yet another "Melanzane alla Parmigiana" - aubergines Parmesan - today. One of my best yet. I don´t know why, but it was unctuous, creamy, fruity, and delish.
I served it with an Artichoke and Roasted Pepper quiche I´d made a day or so ago.

What a lovely meal KK! I would have enjoyed that.
Jeral what a horrible experience and enough to put you off pastry for life! I made chicken stock recently from a freerange carcass and left it bubbling away whilst I watched a television programme. I did set the timer, but when I went back into the kitchen, there was steam everywhere and even inside the kitchen cupboards. I may never make chicken stock again!
Luca, a chicken sandwich with tomatoes is a healthy meal. I love the little pinky-brown shrimps and can buy locally caught ones when I go to Lytham and also on Chorley market. Ouch! I never buy expensive wines, I don't feel the need. I buy mine from Aldi. They have award winning wines at very reasonable prices ... such as below £5!
I love Dover sole, Joan and I'm sure that yours turned out perfectly!
