Onwards and upwards now, wargarden?
Re sugar moulds: I've seen posh cake shows in the US which use isomalt to be "glass" sugar shapes but it seems about half get broken even before getting to the stage of presenting the cake. Do yours require that level of nerves of steel?

I just found this old preserving archive you might be interested in Wargarden.
It also has 9 crabapple recipes for me, for when the ones I mentioned in the Seasonal Food thread have ripened.

Well done wargarden- Look forward to seeing the recipe.
You said you might go in for cake decorating competition. For something truly spectacular and historic you may want to look at this - though it won't be for this year!

Thank you for telling us about your gold medal. I did wonder, but didn't like to ask just in case
Congratulations ... better late than never.

What nice things to read about. WG and today’s success and previously unknown (to me anyway) about Joan’s at Dalemain. I love making marmalade and really must go over to see what exactly goes on.

Blimey, that twelfth night cake looks phenomenal, Marja.
Tony's birthday is soon, all he ever wants is a simple fruit cake. Unembellished.
Thanks for that timely preserving link, Sakkarin. The blackberries entries are perfect for me, so I've bookmarked it. That's a jolly good site.
Joan, what flavour did you make?
I've entered before, and was rather chuffed to get a bronze. I should enter again and try to up my game.
My personal and only claim to fame is winning the meat raffle. Sooooooo much meat & eggs to bring home on the bus, and mum and dad didn't have a freezer back then.
We were giving it away to neighbours and friends. Mabel next door could only manage half a chop
It didn't all get eaten which is a shame, and was more of an annoyance for my parents to deal with than a win.

Congratulations to you. It's not easy to be judged best in show - I've never experienced it anyway.
Enjoy that achievement of yours.
