i think eating asparagus out of uk season (although they didn't say what season the programme had been made in) would ring alarm bells for most people who think about their carbon footprint but as it was the only vegan option starter for sara pascoe she was really the 'fall guy' for that one. it would have been fairer if she'd had a choice.
but yes, it was probably put there to provoke thought rather than to just be the only option for her.
my partner and i were pretty good at choosing the lowest carbon footprint items on the menu. whether they would be the ones we would choose on the rare occasions we eat out is another question - although i try on an everyday basis.
i think the end result was also a bit skewed by desiré not having a drink with her meal.

I don’t think the point was ever to make it a fair competition, like Mastermind, that was just a bit of entertainment to move things along

I think the “skewing” was entirely deliberate to make the point that whatever your baseline diet style if you really want to reduce your carbon footprint you have to be mindful of all the elements, and to give trigger points to insert the little films, and I think Sara got that and played along well

Similarly, Desirée staying off the booze made a point

I have a sneaky idea that Matthew Fort may have known he was steering a middle course, not because he was tipped off but because he writes about this stuff

Did anyone just watch the Hairy Bikers Best of British food repeat? I didn't remember it from first time round and thought it really interesting.

I also thought that the food just hit the spot for this time of year and plan to make a few more 'traditional' meals. There's no reason why the lovely flavours can't be replicated for meatless meals for these 'eat less or no meat' times. No BBQ sauce or curry powder in sight, just a little love ;).

I love the Hairy's.

Just a heads-up that a new series of Junior Bake Off starts on Monday 5pm Channel 4. The last series was amazing! Ravneet Gill replaces Prue in the judging line.

Thanks, mark111757 - the recipes (the videos for them do work here) look really delicious. I will struggle to get some ingredients, but could make near misses which should keep the principle intentions intact.

Hope you are faring well.
